I stumbled into photography. I wish I could say that I had a passion for photography since I was a child and knew that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life…but that’s not my story. My first passion was actually video production. When I started college, I pursued a Media Arts Degree, with a concentration in Television & Video Production. In my sophomore year, I was offered the opportunity to get a Master’s Degree in Information Systems with only one additional year of study – I took it. I didn’t like school and never intended to get a Master’s Degree, but it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. And you know what? I found out that I actually liked IT. So there I was, taking art classes and IT classes, using both sides of my brain. When I finally graduated, I couldn’t find a job that utilized both degrees, so I went into IT. And I liked it!

A few years after graduation, I was encouraged to pursue photography. I had taken photography classes in high school and in college, and with a video/film background I felt comfortable enough to get started. Although photography certainly isn’t “cheap” to get started, I appreciated the fact that you didn’t need a team of people and thousands of dollars worth of equipment just to get started. A great image can be captured with a good camera, lens, natural light, and a good eye.

I then learned that what makes photography somewhat “simple” also makes it quite challenging. Motion pictures are somehow much more forgiving; the artist has 30 frames every second to tell a story, show emotion, or get a point across. Photographs show one moment, and particularly with people – you can never have that moment back.

Now photography is my creative outlet of choice. I like the challenges it brings, and enjoy creating beautiful images to be shared with friends & family and displayed in people’s homes. I believe that professional photography is worth the investment, and I would be happy to capture some images for you to cherish forever.
